Dean's Welcome

Ladies and gentlemen

In 2010, Faculty of Law in Osijek is marking the 39th anniversary of its existence and activities. From its foundation to the present day, this Faculty has raised many generations of excellent lawyers, who (have) carried out responsible tasks, including high-level ones, such as judges, attorneys, state attorneys, ambassadors, in state administration bodies, regional and local self-government, economic, public or political life. Faculty of Law has faced many challenges and difficulties, especially during the War of Independence, but despite that we have managed to constantly improve teaching, scientific and research activities, publish scientific and professional papers, establish and conduct postgraduate study programmes, educate and train young scientists, develop ICT activities, modernise the Faculty's library, envisage and implement various modes of cooperation with institutions both in Croatia and abroad as well as establish and affirm various forms of student activities. Professors of the Faculty of Law in Osijek continuously participate in the definition of new constitutional and legal regulations, influencing thereby modernisation of the Croatian law, and with their knowledge and experience they often contribute to the work of many international bodies and associations, as their members or experts in certain legal fields. Design and implementation of an integrated university legal studies programme, developed in accordance with the so-called Bologna process, i.e. a model widely supported by the legal profession and accepted by all Croatian faculties of law, is of special interest to the Faculty, its teachers and students. The new study programme incorporates and brings into equilibrium all necessary theoretical and practical contents without which legal practice would be inconceivable in conditions of globalisation and international integration, paying attention to a reasonable workload of teachers and students during programme implementation. Despite all in relation to the implementation of the Bologna process, we are doing our best to accomplish excellence in the teaching process and scientific and research activities. Excellence is our permanent commitment. Recently, special attention has been paid to international cooperation, which is reflected in cooperation with the Faculty of Law in Pécs and the project "Establishing University Cooperation Osijek - Pécs" (EUNICOP). High-quality legal education should not be limited to introduction, mere memorising, and successful reproduction of numerous regulations or performing various legal skills as a routine. Neither logical inference nor clear and precise written and oral communication would suffice.
