Activities of the Faculty are founded on recognition of high ethical principles, like the principles of consciousness, justice, mutual respect and respect for academic freedom of expression. Implementation of those principles is entrusted to the Ethics Committees established at the University and the Faculty.
The University Ethics Committee has seven members appointed by the Senate of the University for the period of four years. Four members of the Ethics Committee are proposed by the Senate, one by the Rector, one by the University Council and one by the University Student Union. Code of Ethics of the University on Professional and Public Activities of Teachers, Scientists, Artists and Other Employees is proposed by the University Ethics Committee in accordance with the dignity and reputation of the University, and adopted by the Senate. It defines ethical principles in higher education, in science and research activities at the University, publishing results, relations among scientists, teachers, assistants and other employees involved in the scientific, teaching and research processes, in procedures and practices related to the market competition, as well as in relations towards public and the media.
The Ethics Committee has a task to implement and to foster ethical principles and values within the higher education system, in business relations and public relations, in implementation of modern technologies and the protection of environment.
Pursuant to the Statute of the University and the Code of Ethics of the University, the Ethics Committee is established at the Faculty, consisting of five members elected by the Faculty Council for the period of four years. Two members are elected among teachers in research-teaching and artistic-teaching titles, one member among assistants, one member among other employees and one is proposed by the Student Union of the Faculty. The Ethics Committee monitors implementation of the Code of Ethics of the University at the Faculty and the University, and carries out the procedure of establishing breaches of the Code of Ethics.
The Senate of the University has adopted Regulations on Disciplinary Responsibility of Teachers and Associates of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, by which disciplinary liability of teachers and associates is regulated for breaches of their working and other duties related to work, as well as for severe infringement of reputation of the University and the Faculty. Less serious and more serious disciplinary offences are specified. Disciplinary Tribunal for Teachers and Associates of the Faculty consists of three members. Two of them are chosen from among teachers in academic titles and one from among associates. Disciplinary Tribunal of the University is composed of three permanent members and two non-permanent members. As a rule, the President of the Tribunal and two permanent members come from among teachers of the Faculty and are appointed by the Senate for a period of four years.
Student disciplinary liability is liability of students for breach of duty or for unfulfilled obligation. Student Disciplinary Tribunal consisting of three members makes decisions on minor or grave breaches of duties and/or unfulfilled obligations. Two members of the Tribunal are appointed by the Faculty Council and one by the Student Union of the Faculty for a period of two years.
Supreme Disciplinary Tribunal is established for every faculty separately. The Supreme Disciplinary Tribunal has three members: Vice-Dean for Education, Vice-Dean for Research and the President of the Student Union. For minor breach of duty and/or unfulfilled obligation a measure of written warning may be passed. For grave breach of duty and/or unfulfilled obligation following disciplinary measures may be pronounced: suspension from going in examinations, temporary suspension from the studies or suspension from the studies.
