Head of the Study Programme: Professor Mira Lulić, PhD
Upon successful completion of the specialist postgraduate study programme students are awarded the title of "sveučilišni/a specijalist/ica za ljudska prava" or "univ. spec. za ljudska prava" (abbrev.: "univ. spec. iur."); English: Advanced Master of Human Rights
The goal of this postgraduate specialist study programme is to provide participants with highly specialised training in the field of human rights. A team of professors and lecturers educated at prestigious domestic and foreign faculties, universities and other higher education institutions is the guarantee of a high quality research and professional training of participants. The value of this study programme is its interdisciplinarity and comprehensiveness, correlation of various branches of law, but also of sociology, politology, culturology, history and economics. Human rights will be taught in a modern way, and not only from the aspect of law, but they will also be placed in wider contexts of poverty, violence, identity, globalisation and global forms of government.
With the completion of the study programme, students will have gained appropriate specialist knowledge in the field of human rights, in international law and other related disciplines, as well as the skills and behaviours required to carry out tasks in the field of human rights. This comprises general theoretical, but also specific and practical knowledge, skills and reasoning methods. Participants will, furthermore, gain multidisciplinary knowledge and skills (related to law, economics, philosophy, sociology) that enable critical analysis and the capacity to apply acquired specific knowledge from the field of human rights protection in practice. They are enabled to acquire expert knowledge of human rights and liberties protection at regional and international levels and of legal solutions in use in Croatia. Faculty of Law Osijek offers an advanced interdisciplinary study programme for those who seek to further their knowledge and understanding of human rights in the present time of substantial social changes.
Students are introduced to the professional working methods which will, following the completion of their studies, enable them to independently and professionally research, analyse and present professional results in written and spoken form in their field of specialisation, qualifying them to meet the challenges of the work that they carry out. The training also creates grounds for potential future scientific activity of participants upon completion of the programme.
Participants who are awarded a degree will be able to carry out complex and challenging tasks at higher levels of responsibility in government bodies, judiciary, public administration (local, regional, national and international bodies), professional and vocational associations, educational institutions, institutes, as independent human rights experts, as employees at multinational corporations, private law firms, as human rights attorneys, in the United Nations and other international organisations, at international war crime tribunals and other specialised institutions etc.
The study programme is unique in the Republic of Croatia and in the wider region and the only one offering education in human rights at the postgraduate level. It has come to the attention of the professional and scientific community as well as of a number of human rights protection institutions and organisations, who have been very supportive in our efforts to maintain this kind of education. The postgraduate specialist study of human rights generates academic excellence in learning, research and practical training of postgraduates, provided by university professors, but also practiced experts. We especially encourage interuniversity cooperation, interdisciplinarity as well as practical work with postgraduate students.
