Raising awareness on digitalization of HE (UNIMI, 25 November 2022)

La digitalizzazione nella formazione superiore

On 25th November 2022, starting at 2:30 p.m., the University of Milan hosted a national multiplier event titled “La digitalizzazione nella formazione superiore”. The event was organized under the auspices of the DIGinLaw project with the purpose of discussing the digital competences in higher education and to share the experiences of the UNIMI team from developing the Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) created within the project.

The event offered a fruitful moment of discussion on the digital competences of teachers, the use of digital technology and the challenges it poses to higher education.

The first session, titled “Metodi e strumenti per l’innovazione della didattica”, focused on the endeavours of the University of Milan to the development and adoption of new teaching methodologies aimed at increasingly placing the student, together with their knowledge and skills, at the centre of the educational process. Against this backdrop, three representatives of the UNIMI Faculty Development Group discussed the challenges that the increased digitalization poses on higher education and shared the Group’s initiatives to enhance the teaching skills of faculty members, for the benefit of the entire academic community. The second part of the session was dedicated to the ABC-Learning Design workshop, organized in the framework of the 4EU+ Alliance, to which the University of Milan belongs. One of the representatives of the Working Group Education of the Alliance offered an overview of the activities of the project, which aims at developing a new model of advanced cooperation in training, research and Third-Mission activities among Universities around core shared values. In this framework, the ABC-LD method’s main goal is to train teachers on innovative pedagogy and support their skills in the design of their course.

In the second session of the event, titled “La digitalizzazione nella formazione giuridica”, the DIGinLaw UNIMI team introduced to the colleagues and students who participated the MOOCs created within the project. The teachers gave an overview on the contents of each course, four in total, and shared their experiences in designing and developing of online courses. The MOOCs, which will be firstly made available for the students of the consortium, and then for anyone who is interested in deepening their knowledge on the topics of digitalization, offered a chance for the teachers involved to develop their digital competences and skills, and reason on the possibilities of using digital technology in the HE education.
