Jean Monnet projects – LEULEX

About the project

Jean Monnet Module Language and EU Law Excellence (Project No. 620231-EPP-1-2020-1-HR-EPPJMO-MODULE) has been approved and funded by the European Union through Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency within the Erasmus + Programe 2014-2020. The project lasts for three years and is implemented in the period from 15 September 2020 to 14 September 2023. The total value of the project is 30,240.00 Euros, of which the EU funds 75% (total of 22,680.00 Euros) and the Faculty of Law Osijek the remaining 25% (7,560.00 Euros).

The starting point of the Project is that in the Republic of Croatia there is still insufficient knowledge of European Union law and insufficient knowledge of the working languages of the European Union – English, German and especially French as professional languages in the field of law. The proposed project activities aim to improve the study of EU law at the Faculty of Law in Osijek and to deepen the knowledge of European Union legal terminology in these languages.

Participants are undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate law students, lawyers, civil society representatives and civil servants, but also students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Osijek (Translation Studies) who will improve their knowledge of EU law and adopt terminology in the field in German, English and French. In order to strengthen the linguistic component of the project, distinguished professors of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Osijek are included as lecturers of individual courses. In this way, law students will have the opportunity to participate in lectures and workshops of teachers from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Osijek, get acquainted with modern computer translation tools and gain insight into conference translation skills in specialized conference interpreting booths used in the Translation Studies of the Faculty. In this way, they will develop the abilities and achieve the competencies that the membership of the Republic of Croatia in the European Union increasingly places before Croatian lawyers. The project also aims to attract interested participants from neighboring countries in the region that are in the process of pre-accession negotiations with the EU and to which knowledge in the field of European law and working languages of the EU is extremely important.
