[25 YEARS OF CROATIAN MEMBERSHIP IN THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE]

 

On November 9, 2021, at the Faculty of Law in Osijek, a panel discussion was held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the membership of the Republic of Croatia in the Council of Europe.

With moderation by Associate Professor Tunjica Petrašević and Associate Professor Dunja Duić, participants in the discussion, witnesses of the time of accession to the Council of Europe and leading experts in this field, presented the way the Council of Europe works and works.

In the introductory speech, Dr. sc. Mate Granić, former Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs, explained the historical context of the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the Council of Europe. The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Andreja Metelko Zgombić, described in detail the system of functioning of the Council of Europe and the contemporary challenges that this oldest European organization faces. Finally, the first Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Council of Europe, Vladimir Matek, added to the historical context of accession to the Council of Europe and emphasized the legal and political implications of accession.
