Thalia Kruger
Thalia Kruger is is a professor in the Research Group Law & Develmopment. Her research is situated in the domain of private international law. In this domain she work on different topics such as international contract law, international family law and international civil procedure. She focuses on the international, European and national aspects of private international law. The common thread throughout her work has always been and remains the links of private international law with fairness and human rights, including children's rights.
Johan Meeusen
Johan Meeusen is a full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp, where he teaches European Union Law and Private International Law. Johan has lectured extensively at universities worldwide and has been appointed as a guest professor at universities in China, Estonia, France, South-Africa, and the United States. He has served in many academic management positions, inter alia as Vice-Rector of the University of Antwerp (2008-2016), Dean of its Faculty of Law (2006-2008), and Director of its Research Group on Government and Law (2017-2020).
Frederik Swennen
Frederik Swennen is a full professor of family law and dean of the law fauclty until September 2024. His research projects focus on queer families, vulnerable adults, and non-human entities in law. He is the President of the International Society of Family Law and the Principal Investigator of the Flemish Research Council’s scientific research network RETHINKIN. He teaches family law, international family law (partim), and children’s rights and juvenile law (partim). He is involved in various associations, editorial boards, and NGOs, with a commitment to vulnerable minors. He is Of Counsel at Deloitte legal Lawyers.
Wouter Vandenhole
Wouter Vandenhole is full professor of Human Rights and vice dean of the law faculty until September 2024. Between 2007 and 2018, he also held the UNICEF Chair in Children's Rights. He chairs the academic working party of the University Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, and is the chair of the non-governmental north-south organization Broederlijk Delen. Wouter Vandenhole is a human rights and law-and-development scholar. His research interests include children's rights, economic, social and cultural rights, and the relationship between human rights law and development. He is the lead convenor of SUSTJUSTICE.
Tine Van Hof
Tine van Hof is a postdoctoral researcher and a guest professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp. She holds a PhD from the same University with the title: “Conflicts between the fields of private international law and children’s rights law. The case of international child abduction.” She is a member of the editorial board of the Flemish journal for family law (Tijdschrift voor Familierecht). Her research interests include family law, private international law, and children’s rights law.
Leontine Bruijnen
Leontine Bruijnen is a PhD-researcher and teaching assistant in the field of private international law at the University of Antwerp. Her PhD-subject is the role of private international law in the recognition of kafala and child marriage for family law and migration law purposes. Since 2023, she has also been working part-time at Ghent University (Belgium) on the FAMIMOVE project. This project, co-funded by the European Commission, focuses on the protection of migrant children and the interaction between private international law, migration law and family law in this context. Besides private international law, family law and migration law, Leontine is particularly interested in Islamic law and children’s rights law.
