Course content |
Definition of organized crime. Types of organized criminal groups and historical aspects of development. Statistical indicators on the detection and clarification of organized crime. Bodies dealing with the investigation and prevention of organized crime. Impact on sovereignty and national security. Transnationality of organized crime. Criminological aspects of organized crime. Criminal acts of organized crime. The connection between organized crime, corruption, and money laundering. Procedural legal aspects: use, results, and difficulties of special evidentiary actions: surveillance of communications, interception of computer data, surveillance of premises, secret surveillance, undercover investigators, confidants, simulated actions, controlled transportation. Procedural legal aspects of combating organized crime (witness protection, penitent). The role of covert inquary actions (trap, ambush, collection of information, informants). The meaning of the measure of confiscation of crime proceeds of crimes. Research of certain groups of criminal offenses of organized crime. Case studies and examples from practice, analysis of court decisions. |

After passing the exam from the course, the student will be able to: 1. identify and categorize the characteristics of organized crime, 2. Describe the difficulties in detecting and clarifying organized crime, 3. Plan actions to combat organized crime, 4. Analyze the role of special evidentiary actions and criminal sanctions, 5.
