COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the content and methodologies of forensic psychiatry as an interdisciplinary psychiatric subspecialty. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of psychopathology, the most common mental disorders, and the medico-legal aspects of specific conditions, including dementia, substance use disorders, affective disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety and trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, developmental disorders, and psychosexual disorders. The course also addresses the psychiatric implications of the new Law on the Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders, with particular attention to patients’ rights, involuntary detention and hospitalization, and the implementation of security and protective measures in the treatment of forensic patients. Additionally, students will gain insight into the basic principles of forensic psychiatric evaluation within the context of criminal proceedings.
