COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

Understanding long-term care as a paradigmatic shift in the care of people in need of long-term care, with emphasis on the role of social work in providing a formal network of services for older people. Promoting and supporting informal networks within long-term care. Developing innovative methods of practice in social work with people who have long-term needs. Learning about changes in social care and developing the ability to respond effectively to these changes. Critically understanding dementia as a societal phenomenon that requires a holistic approach to planning and developing support for people with dementia. Based on theoretical knowledge, the course will provide practical knowledge for innovative approaches in social work within the context of long-term care.

ADDITIONAL FACTS
Students will prepare a project based on researching the needs of people requiring long-term care in a specific local environment. The project will account for 50% of the grade, with the remaining 50% based on the written exam (essay).
