COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

The course is aimed at social workers as professional associates in courts and state attorney's offices, and as employees in probation offices, social welfare centers and institutions and support services for victims and witnesses, participate in various ways in criminal and misdemeanor proceedings, as well as the execution of criminal sanctions. The main goal of the course is to provide students with insight into specific legal and procedural situations in which they may find themselves as social workers, and to acquaint them with their role and tasks. By attending this course, students will be able to: 1. Protection of victims and witnesses in criminal proceedings 2. Procedural position of the child in criminal proceedings 3. Arrest, detention and pre-trial detention (as crisis situations) 4. Basic determinants of misdemeanor proceedings 5. Procedural position of the child in misdemeanor proceedings 6. Protection from domestic violence 7. Prison systems 8. The course of the execution of a prison sentence 9. Prisoner's rights and mechanisms for protecting prisoners' rights 10. Consequences of imprisonment and treatment of prisoners 11. Probation work and post-penal assistance

Course learning outcomes

By attending this course, students will be able to: Conduct appropriate counseling for victims of crime, witnesses, prisoners and their families , Maintain professional conduct in complex procedural situations related to criminal and misdemeanor proceedings and the procedure for the execution of criminal sanctions, Successfully apply regulations of criminal procedural law, misdemeanor law and executive criminal law in accordance with the principles of social work, Advocate for the human rights of all categories of persons involved in criminal justice, Successfully identify institutions, social services at the local, national and international level to which victims of crime, witnesses, prisoners and persons released from serving a sentence can turn for help, Empower the family and planning to help solve problems related to post-penal reception and domestic violence,
