COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

"Environment and Sustainable Development" is an elective course in the fifth year of the Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in Law at the Faculty of Law in Osijek. The course is primarily dedicated to the goals and instruments of nature/environment protection and the role of the development concept of "sustainable development" in preserving a healthy and safe environment for future generations. The subject includes a description of the state of nature/environment today in the world, as well as in the European Union and the Republic of Croatia, as well as the reasons, goals and instruments for the protection of nature/environment and the theoretical determinants of the development concept of "sustainable development", the basic pillars, goals and instruments of the realization of the concept and the main indicators (indicators) of achieving progress in the application of the concept.

Course learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will be able to: 1. Understand the complex interdependence of society, economy and environment (nature and anthropomorphic environment) 2. Identify the main components of nature/environment and pressures/destruction to which they are exposed 3. Use indicators, static data and graphical representations for the analysis and synthesis of observed and known environmental problems 4. Understand the basic theoretical starting points of the concept of sustainable development and its three basic pillars (economy, ecology, social justice) 5. Critically use information on the basis of which decisions are made and solutions are proposed for the protection of nature/environment and the realization of the concept of sustainable development 6. Differentiate between the instruments of nature/environmental protection (labor regulation, science and technology, economic instruments, upbringing and education) and ways of managing and financing environmental protection,
