COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

English discourse and terminology analysis in the field of law and social work (What Is Meant by Law?, Sources and Varieties of English Law, Statute Law in Britain, Legal Aid, Civil and criminal courts, From the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia, The Nature and Sources of American Federalism, Education, Employment, Social Policy, Demographics). Students are introduced to the rules of word formation in English with an emphasis on forms typical for the language of the social profession. An overview of grammatical structures is given (articles, word order in a sentence, tenses, modal verbs, passive voice).

Course learning outcomes

distinguish professional text in the field of social work and law from that in general language, apply social work and legal terminology in spoken and written communication, answer questions, translate and summarize English texts in the field of social work and legal profession, correctly apply grammatical and lexical structures typical for the English language of social work and legal professions, correctly apply terminology, grammatical structures in the field of social work and legal professions in oral exam ,
