COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

Defining the concept of an elderly person. Demographic trend of population aging in the world and in the Republic of Croatia. Challenges of population aging. Elderly poverty. Discrimination against the elderly (ageism). Violence against the elderly (concept, types and forms, prevalence and risk factors). Legal framework for the protection of the rights of the elderly: the rights of the elderly in international and regional documents and the protection of the rights of the elderly in the Republic of Croatia. Protection of the elderly from discrimination. Protection of the elderly from violence. Rights of the elderly in the social welfare system. Other rights of special importance for the elderly: the right of the elderly to health care, the right of the elderly to respect for private and family life, home and correspondence, the right of the elderly to work, the right of the elderly to social security and an adequate standard of living.

Define basic notions related to the protection of the rights of the elderly;, Describe and interpret the fundamental challenges for the rights of the elderly;, Establish and apply relevant legal rules for the protection of the rights of the elderly at the international and regional level and in the Republic of Croatia;, Analyze and interpret mechanisms for the protection of the rights of the elderly at the international and regional level and in the Republic of Croatia.,

ADDITIONAL FACTS
Students are obliged to be present and active in class to a certain extent. Students are also required to choose and, with the help of the teacher, research a specific topic, using available literature and other sources, and, while respecting the basic rules of academic writing, create an essay. At the end of the semester, students must pass the final written exam.
