COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

The content of the course consists in analysis of the texts and terminology in English in the field of law and social work (Crime, Death and the Law, Death Penalty, Marriage, Divorce, Wills and Inheritance, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Police Powers in Great Britain, Social Care and Community Work, Disabled People, Older People, Child Welfare). Emphasis is on the function of linkers within the text and the structure of the texts for social work profession. The rules of forming relative and conditional sentences and the rules in forming indirect speech are dealt with.

Course learning outcomes

distinguish professional text in the field of social work and law from that in general language, apply the English social work terminology in spoken and written communication, answer questions, translate and summarize English texts in the field of social work and law, apply correct grammatical and lexical structures typical for the English language of social work and law, apply professional terminology, grammatical structures in preparing and presenting the seminar paper on a selected topic,
