COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

Origin and development of social work, its social conditions, goals, and organization. Professionalization of social work. Definitions of social work. Social protection. The emergence of social problems. Basic types of social problems. A theoretical approach to social problems. Areas of social work. Theoretical approaches that influenced the development of social work theory and practice. Positivism in social work. Functionalism. Psychodynamic approach and its impact on social work. Theories of learning. General system theory and its derivatives. Crisis intervention models. Social psychological influences and theories of communication in social work. Marxist approach to social problems. Radical social work - development of the idea, and today's influences on the practice of social work. Representation models. Reinforcement models. Participatory approaches. Models of group approaches.

Course learning outcomes

Recognize the theoretical concepts of social work and collaborative disciplines, To analyze the relationship between theory and practice, and the role of theory in the development of social work., Argue the importance of mastering theoretical knowledge in order to develop practice, but also the importance of feedback from practice to theory., Demonstrate basic skills of analysis, operationalization, and creation of theoretical concepts and models., Communicate the achievements of social work theory and practice to the immediate and wider social environment in order to devise procedures for the social and personal improvement ,
