COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

Sociology is a compulsory subject at almost all law faculties in the world, regardless of the fact that we find it under different titles (introduction to sociology, general sociology, sociology of law, sociology of deviance, legal sociology, legal anthropology). Its task is to provide future lawyers with insights into complex social processes that represent the backbone for understanding and critical evaluation of the future legal profession. Since law is a social phenomenon that cannot be understood without a prior understanding of modern society, this course aims to provide future lawyers with a better understanding of their future social role as well as social expectations of the legal profession. Lectures on the course are divided into two parts: The 1st part of the lecture includes an introduction to society: (1) a general introduction to sociology as a science, (2) society and culture as a context and (3) social norms - forms, morality and law, norms and social control and violation of social norms. The 2nd part includes a sociological approach to the study of law: (1) law as a form of social norm - communication, language and law, (2) social study of law - the discovery of law as a topic of sociology, the discovery of the sociological in law and some contemporary insights, (3) sociology of law - definition of the field, definition and subject, research methods, goals and basic problems of the sociology of law, (4) law as culture/legal (non)culture (subtopic: law and game) and finally (5) selected topics of legal (non)culture - about to the education of law students, law and literature, the influence of film on the development of legal culture, conscientious objection and the legal profession, and artificial intelligence and law.
