COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course content

By attending the General History of Law and State course, students gain knowledge about the origin and development of individual legal systems and institutions throughout history. It is also intended that students acquire knowledge about the development of individual state systems through various forms of social arrangements. Studying the above on the examples of countries that have left a significant mark in world history and applying the comparative method, students also acquire basic knowledge about legal systems, forms of state organization, the structure of individual states, and about individual legal institutes in their first forms, as well as their development course. from the second millennium BC until the twentieth century. Also, by comparing individual systems and individual exemplary and characteristic countries, students gain insight into the advantages and disadvantages of some of them, and try to understand the causes of this. The subject General history of law and the state is closely related to the subject History of Croatian law and the state and to the subject Roman law, and there are certain points of contact with the subject Theory of law and the state. The significance of the subject General history of law and the state for the further education of lawyers is first of all that students acquire basic knowledge about the emergence of certain forms of state and legal organization, and of certain legal institutes, which they later study in more detail within the framework of other subjects during their studies.
