COURSE DESCRIPTION |

Course content |
The teaching content includes the treatment of professional texts and legal terminology within the texts: Crime, Death and the Law, The Death penalty, Marriage, Divorce, and The Legal Character of International Law. The rules of word formation in English are introduced with an emphasis on forms typical of the language of the law. An overview of grammatical structures and the rules of sequence of tenses in conditional clauses and relative clauses is given. The function of connectors within the text and the structure of legal texts are analyzed and applied in oral and written exercises. |

Distinguish between professional legal text from the general language texts, Apply the learned professional terminology in the field of law in spoken and written communication in English, Demonstrate the understanding of legal texts by retelling or answering questions, Adopt and correctly apply grammatical and lexical structures typical for the English language of the legal profession in the field of family law, criminal law, constitutional law, and international law., By independently analyzing the professional text, to find keywords, and be able to write a summary of the text., |
