On 13 May 2026 at 10:00 a.m., Ms. Tihana Škugor, University Specialist in Environmental Economics (univ. spec. oecol.), from Unikom (Waste Management Sector, Quality Management and Environmental Protection Department), delivered a guest lecture at the invitation of the Project Leader, Ana Đanić Čeko, PhD, Associate Professor.
The lecture was delivered on the topic: “Implementation of EU Environmental Policies in Sustainable Waste Management – The Case of the City of Osijek”, within the framework of the NPOO institutional research project entitled: “Implementation and Enforcement Challenges of European Law on Selected Institutes in the Croatian Legal System – IPIE (581-UNIOS-88)”.
Students enrolled in the elective course Environmental Law (third year of the undergraduate professional Administrative Study Programme; course coordinator: Ana Đanić Čeko, PhD, Associate Professor) and members of the Green Legal Clinic were provided with an overview of EU legislation and environmental policies in the field of waste management, with particular emphasis on their implementation within the Croatian legal system. The lecture further addressed the relevant EU Directives (the so-called “Waste Package”), which establish more ambitious targets for waste separation, recycling, and the reduction of landfill disposal by 2035. In addition, the implementation and practical application of EU law in this field were presented through the example of the City of Osijek, recognised as one of the major cities in the Republic of Croatia successfully implementing sustainable waste management practices.
