As part of the project European Support for Children at Risk of Poverty (EU_SHINE), carried out at the Faculty of Law Osijek as a Jean Monnet Module with financial support from the European Union, the university handbook “Integrated Support for Children at Risk of Poverty: Theory, Public Policy and Practice in the Helping Professions” has been published.
The handbook was written by Assistant Professor Dinka Caha, PhD, Professor Olja Družić Ljubotina, PhD, Professor Marijana Kletečki Radović, PhD, and Professor Sanela Bašić, PhD.
The handbook is one of the main results of the EU_SHINE project. It is also a lasting contribution that will continue after the project ends. It brings together research findings, theoretical foundations and guidelines for professional practice. It will remain a useful source of knowledge and support for future students, for professionals in the helping professions, and for everyone whose work helps improve the well-being of children at risk of poverty.
The handbook takes a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to poverty. It connects theory, European and national public policy, and practical approaches to professional work. It gives particular attention to understanding child poverty and how it affects children’s development and well-being. It also covers risk and protective factors, and ways to empower children and families through direct professional practice, advocacy and community work.
It is intended for students of social work and related disciplines, professionals in social welfare, education and healthcare, policymakers, and everyone whose work helps protect children’s rights and improve their well-being.
We believe the handbook will be a valuable source of knowledge and will encourage professional reflection. We hope it will support everyone who works to create a fairer and more inclusive environment for every child.
