On 23 September 2026, Jelena Dujmović Bocka, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of Work Package 4 – Science Communication and Student Engagement, delivered an online presentation in English entitled “Transformation of Croatian Local Self-Government through the Application of Artificial Intelligence” as part of this year’s 2nd International Scientific Multidisciplinary Conference, “AI for a Smarter Tomorrow (AI-SMART 2026)”. The presentation was co-delivered with Dana Dobrić Jambrović, PhD, Associate Professor from the Department of Administrative Science at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, who also serves as Vice-Dean for Professional Studies.

The presenters analysed the functioning of local self-government through the application of artificial intelligence. The aim of the presentation was to examine the possibilities and limitations of applying artificial intelligence at the local level. By establishing a theoretical framework, the presentation provided an analysis of the national and European legal framework governing this particularly important field, followed by an examination of examples of good practice in the Republic of Croatia. The findings of the analysis indicate that local self-government is increasingly oriented towards the development of smart cities and is striving to align its functional aspects with the digital transformation of public administration.
