| Course content |
The aim of the course is to acquire additional knowledge regarding transport as a major source of pollution, as well as measures to mitigate its environmental impact. Transport is one of the largest environmental polluters, adversely affecting air, water, and soil quality, generating noise and waste, and harming flora and fauna. The course explains fundamental concepts of environmental law and sustainable development, environmental law principles, and pollution sources, while providing an overview of key environmental legal frameworks (international, European, and domestic). It examines various modes of transport (road, rail, air, maritime, and inland waterway) and the specific environmental pollution issues associated with each sector. Measures to reduce the negative environmental impact of transport and strategies for establishing sustainable urban transport are presented. Specific attention is given to topics such as alternative fuels, the transport of dangerous goods, and ballast water management. Environmental protection measures are also analysed. Students are expected to apply the knowledge they have acquired to practical cases, develop independence and critical thinking skills, draw their own conclusions, and propose solutions. |
