From 4 to 6 December 2025, Ante Novokmet, Associate Professor participated in the conference “Criminal Justice Today – Between Reforms
and Persistent Challenges,” held in Opatija as part of the 38th Annual Conference of the Croatian Association of Criminal Law and Practice.
Together with Dražen Tripalo, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia, he delivered a presentation entitled “The
Supsidiary Prosecutor in the Theory and Practice of Croatian Criminal Procedure.” The presentation addressed an issue that has long attracted the attention of the Croatian academic and professional community and in respect of which judicial practice still lacks a clear and consistent approach. Based on a published scholarly article in the Croatian Annual of Criminal Science and Practice (Vol. 32, No. 2, 2025) and the presentation delivered at the conference, a discussion was held with the participants on current problems relating to the injured party’s assumption of criminal prosecution, the scope of judicial control over such assumption, and the allocation of the costs of criminal proceedings in cases where the court has allowed the assumption of prosecution but the proceedings have ended with an acquittal, a dismissal of the charges, or a decision to discontinue the proceedings.
