Call for conference participation

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the application of the Family Law Act of the Republic of Croatia (2015 – 2025), the Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, in cooperation with Croatian Society on Legal Protection of Family, Association of Youth and Family Judges and Specialists and Croatian Chamber of Social Workers, is organizes international scientific conference “Family Law in Transition: 10 Years of the Family Law Act of the Republic of Croatia and Reform Trends in the Region”, providing an opportunity for a scientific analysis of its achievements, challenges and impact on legal and social practice. Within a broader regional framework, the conference initiates a comparative dialogue on contemporary family law reforms in the countries of Southeast Europe – Serbia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina – to exchange experiences, good practices, and critically reflect on common and different trends.

Special attention will be paid to:

  • Compliance with European and international standards for the protection of vulnerable persons in the context of family law protection (women, children, persons with disabilities, etc.),
  • Development of judicial and administrative practice, and social work practice,
  • The influence of social changes on the formation of contemporary family law,
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation in the field of family law and social work.

The conference is interdisciplinary, bringing legal scholars, practitioners (judges, lawyers, notaries public), experts from the social welfare system, and other relevant stakeholders, and provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

  • Nataša Lucić, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia)
  • Elena Ignovska, Ph.D., Full Professor, Faculty of Law “Justinijanus Primus”, University of St. Cyril and Methodius, Skopje (North Macedonia)
  • Sandra Samardžić, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Novi Sad (Serbia).

Conference venue: Faculty of Law Osijek (Stjepana Radića 13, Osijek, Croatia).

Conference fee: 100,00 euros (participation with presentation), 70,00 euros (participation without presentation, listeners only) (includes conference participation, online book of abstracts, lunch, refreshments, and promotional material). Participants bear travel costs and accommodation.

Conference languages: Croatian and English.

Conference participants will have the opportunity to publish their papers in the journal Child and Family in Contemporary Society, published by the Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. The journal is indexed in HeinOnline, and the publication of articles is scheduled for June 2026.

  • Notification on Acceptance of Abstract: 15 September 2025
  • Registration and Conference Fee payment30 September 2025 (participants whose abstracts are accepted and listeners will receive instructions on payment of the conference fee and registration via e-mail)
  • Submission Deadline for Papers: 1 March 2026.
