Jean Monnet projekti – EU_SHINE

Summer school

Children without accessible resources have multidimensional, deeply rooted struggles that make uncoordinated and fragmented support from educational, social welfare, and health systems insufficient. Although every fifth child in the European Union is at risk of poverty and social exclusion, they often stay invisible and without adequate support within the systems they interact with.

To make an intervention that is tailored to address children’s poverty but also feasible within a system that the child interacts with, professionals must have the competencies to provide support to positive development to those who are at risk of poverty. Jean Monnet module: EU_SHINE will strengthen these competencies through e-training and summer school.

Summer school

The summer school takes place from September 2 – 6, 2024 in Osijek. During the summer school, participants will work in smaller groups and prepare an intervention related to children at risk of poverty with the support of an organization from their local community. Each group will implement a prepared intervention within two months after leaving Osijek. Participants will have online support during the implementation process.

This service-learning method allows students to collaborate between and with local professionals, to gain authentic experiences while strengthening their social responsibility and the competencies needed to respond to locally relevant contexts.

Who is summer school intended for?

A total of 20 social work students, students of early childhood care, teachers, (social) pedagogics, or psychologists will join the summer school. To receive a summer school certificate completion, each group of students will implement a community intervention within two months after completion of the theoretical and planning aspects of the summer school in Osijek.
